Man shot by attempted robbers at MARTA bus stop

ATLANTA -- A man was shot at a MARTA bus stop Monday night. He said the suspects tried to rob him before shooting him.

It happened at around 11:45 p.m. on Oglethorpe Avenue near Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard in southwest Atlanta.

The victim told Atlanta Police he was walking down the street when he was approached by eight juvenile suspects who demanded his backpack. He turned and tried to run, and the suspects fired several shots in his direction.

The victim was struck at least once. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

No one has been arrested. The shooting is under investigation.


2-year-old boy left in daycare van in Atlanta

ATLANTA (WXIA) – A daycare center driver is under arrest after leaving a 2-year-old boy in the back of a van Monday afternoon.

Shavonda Dailey, 29, had her first court appearance Tuesday morning. Her bond was set at $15,000 -- $10,000 for the child cruelty charge she faces, and $5,000 for the reckless conduct charge. A judge also told her she showed her disregard in caring for other people's children and cannot be around children until the case is resolved.

Atlanta Police said the van, from A New Beginning Daycare Center on Sylvan Road in southwest Atlanta, was supposed to drop off 2-year-old Jeremy Smith at home, but never did.

The mother, Renee Evans, tried calling the daycare center but couldn't reach anyone. She called 911 while Jeremy's grandmother went to the daycare center and, according to police, found Jeremy inside the locked van, which was parked in front of the daycare center.

Man sentenced in shooting death of Atlanta night club owner

ATLANTA -- A Fulton County jury has convicted a man in a night club owner's 2012 death.

Jurors returned guilty verdicts Friday against Roshun Gray, 34, on charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and weapons offenses for the shooting death of Federain Bennett, 30.

Bennett was shot and killed on Jan. 14, 2012 outside of his southwest Atlanta business "Club Louise's" located on Joseph E. Boone Drive.

Earlier in the evening, the defendant's friend, Jeremy White and White's girlfriend were kicked out of the club after arguing and causing a disturbance.

Angry about being ejected from the club, White later returned with Defendant Gray and another man. The three attempted to enter the club by pushing past club security stationed at the door.

Mother determined to find daughter's killer

ATLANTA -- For the past twenty years an Atlanta woman has held barbecues and car washes to raise reward money, she's led marches and handed out flyers, but still doesn't know who killed her 14-year-old daughter.

Man found guilty in girlfriend's strangulation murder

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A Fulton County jury has found an Atlanta area man guilty in the 2011 death of his girlfriend.

Larry Harper, Jr. 38, was found guilty of murder, concealing the death of another and tampering with evidence in connect with the apparent strangulation death of Thandiwe Hunt, 20.

A mailman discovered Hunt's body in a wooded area near the intersection of Bagwell Street and Park Avenue in southwest Atlanta on Feb. 2, 2011.

The victim's nude body was wrapped in a plastic bag and secured by duct tape.

An autopsy revealed the young woman died as a result of "homicidal violence" and that her injuries were consistent with either strangulation or asphyxiation.

Harper and the victim were dating and living together at a hotel shortly before her death.

Man shot to death in southwest Atlanta

ATLANTA -- A 47-year-old man was shot to death at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex Wednesday morning.

Witnesses heard gunshots at around 1:30 a.m. at the 1890 House Apartments in the 1800 block of Myrtle Drive. A passerby flagged down an Atlanta police officer.

The victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:10 a.m.

Police have not yet determined a motive for the shooting or made any arrests. The victim's name has not been released.

APD: Girlfriend arrested after man shot to death

ATLANTA -- A woman has been arrested in connection with the Saturday evening murder of her boyfriend in southwest Atlanta.

Temeka Jones, 34, was arrested after police found 50-year-old Michael Preston Sr. dead in the street at around 6:30 p.m. It's not clear if Jones was the one who called 911.

The incident happened on the 3000 block of Highbury Trail. 11Alive has confirmed that this shooting happened right in front of the girlfriend's house.

Investigators said it's not clear yet how many times Preston was shot.

Jones is being held at the Fulton County jail and police said the investigation will continue.
