News

ATLANTA -- Police believe a home invasion and shooting in southwest Atlanta revolves around cocaine.

The attempted break-in happened at around 3:45 a.m. Friday outside a unit at the Pavilion Place Apartments in the 500 block of Cleveland Avenue.

Atlanta Police Capt. Terrell Griffin said the break-in suspect did not get inside, but instead fired several shots into the unit's door. A 23-year-old man inside the apartment was struck one in the stomach and twice in the leg.

The victim was taken to an area hospital; his condition and name were not immediately available. Griffin said the man will be charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

The suspect ran from the apartment and has not been caught. Police believe the suspect tried to break into the apartment to get the victim's cocaine.
