Adult, child burned in southwest Atlanta house fire


ATLANTA -- Authorities have confirmed that an adult and child are being treated for burns after a fire in southwest Atlanta, Friday night.

The fire happened at a home in the 400 block of Harlan Road. There, officials said that an adult received burns to the hands and face. A child also suffered minor burns.

Both are said to be alert conscious and breathing though their exact condition has not yet been released.

11Alive has crews on the way to the scene of the fire to provide more details on this developing story.

VIDEO: Suspect sought in deadly SW Atlanta shooting


ATLANTA -- Atlanta Police hope stunning surveillance video will help investigators track down a gunman in a deadly shooting.

Rodney Stafford, 25, was shot killed near the intersection of Welch and Mary Street last Friday.

Police say the gunman fired in the direction of Gideon Elementary School.

2 firefighters injured in wreck involving 2 fire vehicles


ATLANTA -- Two firefighters were injured after an accident involving another fire department vehicle on Thursday.

The Atlanta Fire engine was responding to a warehouse fire when it was slammed head-on into an SUV on Lee Street SW at Van Buren Street SW.  The SUV was also a fire department vehicle. 

Quintin Barksdale said he heard an explosion on the fire truck right before it was engulfed in flames. 

The injured firefighters were in the SUV. They were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Four people on the fire truck were not injured.

Another Atlanta Fire Department vehicle put out the fire on the truck.

By Friday, both injured firefighters had been released from the hospital and were expected to be OK.

Person of interest sought in fatal shooting


ATLANTA -- Police have released surveillance footage of a person of interest in a fatal shooting.

The shooting happened Oct. 13. According to Atlanta police, a witness called authorities after hearing a gunshot and finding a man laying in the parking lot of an abandoned car wash at 144 Campbellton Road.

The victim was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

On Wednesday, police released video showing a person of interest in the shooting walking into a convenience store.

 


Police release sketch in beating of MLK's sister-in-law


ATLANTA -- Atlanta police have released the sketch of a man wanted in connection with the attack of Martin Luther King Jr.'s sister-in-law.

According to Atlanta Police, Naomi King was assaulted outside of her home around 5 p.m. on Oct. 9.

King, the 83-year-old widow of Martin Luther King Jr.'s younger brother, told 11Alive that she was returning to her southwest Atlanta retirement community when a man yelled at her demanding she get out of the car.

"I said 'I will not get out of my car.' He said 'I will bust you in your lips,'" King said.

"He gave me a hard lick on my cheek," King said, describing that she was bleeding profusely.

MLK's sister-in-law describes attack


ATLANTA, Ga. -- Naomi King insists she was never scared when a man punched her twice in the face while trying to steal her car Friday night.

But don't let the sister-in-law to MLK fool you, what happened to her was downright terrifying."No, I wasn't scared," King said, adding she has faith on her side.
