WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Tiana Welch is this year's recipient of the Cherokee County School Nutrition Association's Judy Johnson Memorial Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship, which is awarded annually to a relative of a Cherokee County school food services employee, was created to honor a much-loved member of the CCSNA family.

Welch is the granddaughter of Indian Knoll Elementary assistant cafeteria manager Phyllis Hunter. She graduated from Woodstock High School and is now a rising senior at Spelman College in Atlanta, where she is majoring in chemistry.

As a cancer survivor, Welch has made it her goal to attend medical school and become an anesthesiologist with the hope of someday helping others as her doctors helped her.

The Judy Johnson Memorial Scholarship is funded by donations and fundraisers. Last year's recipient, Cory Locatelli, is also a Woodstock High alum.
